(Ages 11-17) This course is designed to strengthen students’ foundational math skills and prepare them for success in high school mathematics. It reinforces essential concepts from 8th grade, with a focus on real-world problem solving and mathematical reasoning. Students will deepen their understanding of proportional relationships, rational numbers, and algebraic expressions and equations. They will also explore geometry through drawing, constructing, and analyzing figures, while applying concepts of angle measure, area, surface area, and volume. In addition, students will build statistical thinking by working with data, drawing inferences from random samples, comparing populations, and investigating probability models. This course lays the groundwork for confidence and success in future high school math courses. BRING: Pencils, erasers, red pen, calculator, geometry set, graph paper, ruler and notebook. PREREQUISITE: 7th grade math or instructor permission. PURCHASE: Text at RVC Bookstore.
