This course will discuss the different options for animals on the homestead and the benefits and costs of raising animals on the homestead. Factors for animal selection and requirements for housing and nutrition will also be discussed. On the second day of the class students will tour animal enclosures and see different breeds of animals. Martin Quirk is a Professor of History and has lived a homesteading lifestyle for the last thirteen years. He began as an urban homesteader in northeast Rockford. Today he and his family live on a five-acre agricultural property in Harrison Township in Winnebago County.
